Police in US capital city of Washington have arrested at least four protesters affiliated with the Occupy DC movement after raiding demonstrator's campsite.
Police in riot gear and on horseback entered the Occupy DC camp in McPherson Square in downtown Washington on early Saturday to enforce a camping ban.
An officer told the protesters that the police were not there to evict them, but to check for compliance to the "no camping" laws. Officers then began removing the tents that had camping gear inside.
On Tuesday, a US federal judge rejected an Occupy DC demonstrator's request to keep police from enforcing a ban on camping in the park and nearby Freedom Plaza.
The anti-capitalism encampment in Washington is a part of the Occupy DC movement which was inspired by the Occupy Wall Street campaign that began in New York in September 2011.
The Occupy Wall Street movement emerged when a group of demonstrators gathered in New York's financial district on September 17, 2011 to protest the unjust distribution of wealth in the country and the excessive influence of big corporations on US policies.
Over 6,000 Occupy protesters have already been detained by police since the beginning of the protests.
