Bahraini regime forces have intensified attacks on protesters as the first anniversary of the February 14 uprising in the country draws closer.

Saudi-backed regime forces have attacked protesters in several villages, injuring tens of people and arresting several women.

This is while anti-government protests have also intensified in the kingdom ahead of the first anniversary of the revolution.

Opposition groups in Bahrain have called for international pressure on the Manama government to stop the ruling Al Khalifa family's deadly crackdown.

Scores of demonstrators have been killed and hundreds wounded in the popular uprising in the Persian Gulf nation.

The Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry issued a report on November 23, 2011, saying that the Manama regime had used ''excessive force, including the extraction of forced confessions against detainees.''
